GY10K: Living an independent life
Looking after our mind is just as important as caring for our body, and when people find themselves experiencing mental health problems, it’s The Gardiner Hill Foundation they can turn to.
The foundation is the official charity set up by NAViGo, the award-winning social enterprise that provides mental health services to the NHS and beyond throughout North East Lincolnshire. As well as promoting good mental health, it works alongside and supplements these essential services, helps people to live independently, and supports education, training, and employment opportunities.
The charity takes its name from a local doctor, Robert Gardiner Hill, who championed the rights of people with mental health problems in the 1800s, and is one of seven good causes being supported by the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k event this year.
St Hugh’s Hospital is a proud sponsor of the popular road race, taking place on Sunday, June 5, and our family fun run is making a return, too. Whether you are an avid runner or have recently taken up the sport or want to have a fun day out with family and friends, sign up today – and know you’re supporting local good causes. A £1 donation is made from every race entry into a fund shared between each of them.
“The Gardiner Hill Foundation was set up to enhance and enrich the lives of people with mental health problems,” says the charity. “We’ve even partnered with Thorpe Park in Cleethorpes to offer a deluxe caravan at a reduced price to NAViGO service users, carers, community members and staff, so they can relax, unwind and enjoy a much-needed break.
“Plus, our team of trustees and support staff are volunteers, which means donations go to supporting our valuable work.”
