GY10K: A helping hand for younger people
The saying goes that your home is your castle – but where do you turn when that’s under threat?
Doorstep provides accommodation and support to young people and young families aged 16 to 25 years old who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or experiencing poor housing within North East Lincolnshire.
The charity, based in Pasture Street, Grimsby, is one of seven good causes being supported by this year’s Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k, of which we are proud sponsors. We are also hosting the St Hugh’s Hospital Family Fun Run this year, too, and this article is the sixth in a series of articles putting the spotlight on the charity beneficiaries.
From claiming the right benefits, managing finances, and helping young people into training, work, or college, to developing household skills, providing help to secure permanent accommodation, and support in managing emotional and physical wellbeing, Doorstep’s comprehensive service is a vital lifeline to many in our area.
That’s why the money being raised from the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k is so important to its seven chosen good causes; A £1 donation is made from every race entry into a fund shared between each of them.
“Donations to Doorstep are used to provide extra support to young people,” says the charity. “They help in emergencies when someone becomes homeless, they help along the way when someone falls on hard times, and they help at the end of our support when we’re settling someone into a permanent home.”
