GY10K: Get ‘Onside’ with a good cause!

The St Hugh’s Hospital Family Fun Run – part of the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k – is back for 2022, raising vital cash for good causes.

Organised overall by Tape2Tape, the much-loved 10k road race supports many local charities and community groups, and as part of the event – taking place on Sunday, June 5 – our fun run is making a welcome return.

As reported, entries opened at one minute past midnight on New Year’s Day, and would-be participants are being encouraged to secure their place sooner rather than later. At the last live race, a massive 4000 people took part.

We proudly host the fun run and sponsor the road race, which is now in its seventh year and is this time round raising cash for seven local organisations.

In the first in a series of articles highlighting the good causes benefitting in 2022, today the spotlight falls on Grimsby’s OnSide Youth Zone project.

The goal is to ensure that every young person, regardless of their circumstance or background, can access first-rate facilities, expert mentoring, and support whenever they want or need to.

It’s been given the name Horizon Youth Zone because of the opportunities it will provide and is an exciting new development in Grimsby town centre. An integral part of the Greater Grimsby Town Deal, it is investing in the youngest members of the community – our future leaders, employers, and employees.

Planning approval for its home in the heart of Grimsby – in the former West Haven Maltings and Migar House buildings – was given in May 2021. A state-of-the-art facility will be built to provide a safe and inspiring place for young people to spend their leisure time, meet people, and enjoy new activities.

Horizon Youth Zone, an independent charity, will be open to young people aged 8-19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, seven days a week.

For just 50p per visit, members will have access to an indoor climbing wall, four court sports hall, training kitchen, music room with a recording studio, fully equipped gym, dance, and drama studio, 3G kick pitch, arts and crafts room, enterprise and employability suite and much more.
