Cardiology
Cardiology is the medical service that looks after your heart and circulation.
Your heart pumps blood around your body. If it is not working properly, you may feel symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, dizziness or palpitations (a racing or irregular heartbeat).
At St Hugh’s Hospital, our cardiology team provides expert assessment, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of heart conditions.
You may benefit from a cardiology appointment if you experience:
- Chest pain or tightness
- Shortness of breath
- A racing, pounding or irregular heartbeat
- Dizziness or fainting
- Swollen ankles
- Ongoing high blood pressure
- A family history of heart disease
If you are worried about your heart health, it is always better to have it checked.
At your first visit, your cardiologist will:
- Ask about your symptoms
- Review your medical history
- Check your blood pressure and heart rate
- Listen to your heart
Treatment depends on your diagnosis, and may include:
- Medication
- Lifestyle advice
- Monitoring and follow up appointments
- Referral for further procedures if needed.
