Microneedling (Coming Soon)

Feel confident in your skin

If fine lines, uneven texture or certain types of scarring are affecting how you feel about your skin, Microneedling could be an option.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that works by stimulating your skin's natural repair response.

At St Hugh's Hospital, we'll start by getting to know your skin, your concerns and what you'd like to achieve before recommending treatment.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling uses a specialist device containing very fine, sterile needles to create tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin.

This stimulates the skin’s natural repair response, including the production of collagen and elastin.

As this process takes place, microneedling may gradually improve the appearance and texture of the skin.

What can Microneedling help with?

Depending on your skin and individual suitability, microneedling may help improve the appearance of:

  • Fine lines
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Enlarged pores
  • Certain types of acne scarring
  • Other suitable scars
  • Overall skin quality

Everyone’s skin is different, which is why we’ll always assess yours before recommending treatment.

What happens during treatment?

Consultation

We’ll discuss your skin, any concerns you have and what you’d like to achieve.

Skin assessment

Your practitioner will assess your skin and determine whether microneedling is suitable for you.

Treatment

Your skin will be prepared before the microneedling device is carefully passed across the treatment area.

Recovery

Some redness and sensitivity afterwards is normal. We’ll give you clear advice about caring for your skin following treatment.

Results

Microneedling works with your skin’s natural repair process, so changes aren’t immediate. Results develop gradually and vary from person to person.

Frequently asked questions

Does microneedling hurt?

You may experience some discomfort during treatment. Everyone experiences it differently and your practitioner will explain what to expect beforehand.

What will my skin look like afterwards?

Redness and sensitivity are common following treatment. Your skin may initially look or feel a little like mild sunburn. This should settle, although recovery varies between individuals.

Is there any downtime?

There may be some visible redness following treatment, so it’s worth taking this into consideration when planning your appointment. Your practitioner will explain when you can return to your usual skincare, makeup and activities.

When will I see results?

Results aren’t immediate. Microneedling stimulates your skin’s natural repair response, so changes can develop gradually in the weeks following treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on your skin, your concerns and what you would like to achieve. Some people may be advised to have a course of treatments.

We’ll recommend a plan that’s appropriate for you following your consultation.

Can microneedling help with acne scars?

Microneedling may help improve the appearance of certain types of acne scarring. Your practitioner will assess your skin to determine whether your particular scarring is suitable for treatment.

Can I wear makeup after microneedling?

You’ll need to allow your skin some time to recover. Your practitioner will advise you when it is appropriate to start wearing makeup and using your normal skincare products again.

Is microneedling suitable for everyone?

No. Certain skin conditions, medications and other factors can mean treatment isn’t appropriate. We’ll check your suitability during your consultation.

Let's talk about your skin

You don’t need to know exactly what treatment you need before getting in touch.

Tell us what you’d like to improve and our team can help you understand whether microneedling could be suitable for you.
