‘You totally deserve it!’

Sometimes it can be hard to put into words just how life-changing and transformative cosmetic surgery can be, not just for that person’s appearance, but also – and vitally – for how they feel about themselves on the inside.
When Katherine Taylor decided to undergo surgery, it changed a lifetime of feeling that how she looked on the outside did not match who she really was.
The 53-year-old had “the works”, as she describes it – a face and neck lift, upper and lower blepharoplasty (eyelids), upper and lower cheek and temple lift with platysma plication (to smooth out what’s known as a ‘turkey’ neck), and liposuction.
The quicker way of describing it is consultant Muhammad Riaz’s signature ‘R’ facelift – a procedure he has created himself. Since undergoing the procedure last year, she’s had positive comments and compliments galore, and now the cosmetics industry has recognised just how good her outcome has been, too.
Katherine’s procedure has been nominated in the Best Surgical Result category in the Aesthetics Awards 2022, celebrating cosmetic excellence. St Hugh’s Hospital is only one of four finalists in the category, which will be voted on by a panel of expert judges. The winner will be revealed at a ceremony in London in March.
In fact, we are the only hospital in the north of England among the finalists; the other three are based in London.
“I am so thrilled,” said Katherine, who sent us a message from sunny Portugal, where she and her partner Daz are enjoying a nice, long break. She’s also sent us some photographs – make-up free and natural, of course – to share.
“It’s so exciting about Mr Riaz and St Hugh’s being finalists – both Mr Riaz and the hospital totally deserve it.”
“When you compare the before and after photos, you really can see a difference,” she told us shortly after having the surgery. “But when you have nothing to compare it to, and people haven’t seen you for a while, it’s so lovely that they’ve no idea… that they know you look good but can’t quite put their finger on why. Isn’t that an amazing skill, as a surgeon? Just incredible – he’s a genius.
“I cannot speak highly enough of the team at St Hugh’s – everyone from Mr Riaz to the girls who looked after me during the night and the lady who cooked my food… the whole experience was wonderful. It proves you don’t have to go to London to get Harley Street quality.”
The Aesthetics Awards are known as the ‘Oscars of Aesthetics’. The winner will be announced on March 12, following the two-day Aesthetics Conference & Exhibition.
