Mr Jorge Clavijo

MD, FEBU

Consultant Urologist

Mr Jorge Clavijo is a Consultant Urologist at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby. He has worked as a urological surgeon since 1995 and has practised in Lincolnshire and Humberside since 2006, alongside his NHS post at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital. He treats prostate problems, urinary symptoms, bladder and kidney cancer, incontinence and sexual health concerns, and performs keyhole and minimally invasive surgery across the whole of urology.

Urology covers a lot of ground, and much of it people find awkward to raise. Getting up several times a night, blood where it should not be, problems that feel too personal to mention to a GP. Mr Clavijo’s view is that these are ordinary medical problems with ordinary medical answers, and that the sooner they are looked at properly the better the outcome tends to be. Consultations are unhurried, and he sees patients through every stage of their care himself.

About Mr Clavijo

Mr Clavijo qualified in medicine at the Universidad de la República in Uruguay in 1989 and has worked as a urological surgeon since 1995. He moved to the UK in 2003 and has been based in Lincolnshire and Humberside since 2006. He is a Fellow of the European Board of Urology and a member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons.

His surgical training has been international. He trained in laparoscopic surgery in Heilbronn in Germany, one of the pioneering centres for keyhole urological surgery, and in Eastbourne. He then trained in female urology at UCLA in California. For several years he was an Honorary Professor of Urology at the Universidad de la República in Montevideo, and he is director of Urology Solutions Ltd, a medical and educational company.

Much of his practice is taken up with the assessment of prostate cancer and other prostate conditions, along with voiding symptoms, blood in the urine, bladder cancer, kidney cancer and sexual health problems. He performs laparoscopic surgery, female urology procedures and treatment of kidney tumours including needle tissue ablation (cryotherapy). He also offers newer minimally invasive treatments for an enlarged prostate, including the Urolift and Rezum procedures, which treat symptoms without cutting away prostate tissue and generally allow a much faster recovery than traditional prostate surgery.
