Celebrating cosmetic excellence, the awards are known as the ‘Oscars of Aesthetics’. As reported, St Hugh’s Hospital is only one of four finalists in the Best Surgical Result category – the only hospital in the north of England; the other three are based in London.

The nomination is for Mr Riaz’s signature ‘R’ facelift. Patient Katherine Taylor underwent the procedure last year, and it’s her transformative experience – which she described as the best decision she’s made – that the nomination is for.

Mr Riaz said: “I am delighted to be shortlisted in an awards scheme that brings together the very best in medical aesthetics. The nomination recognises the great teamwork that takes place at St Hugh’s.”

We spoke to Katherine in depth about her journey, from having what she described as ‘baggy’ eyes ever since childhood to being regularly complimented on her fresh-faced appearance. He has worked as a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon since 2001. Although he offers a full range of cosmetic surgery, he has a special interest in facial rejuvenation, and created the ‘R’ facelift with the needs of his patients in mind. On a personal note, Mr Riaz is a surgical team member of a local charity and travels twice yearly to perform cleft lip and palate surgery on babies and young children in under-developed countries.
