Mr Muhammad Riaz
MB BS, FRCSI, FRCS (Glasg), FRCS (Ed), FRCS (Plast)
Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon
Mr Muhammad Riaz is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby. He offers the full range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, with specialist interests in facial rejuvenation, breast surgery and hand surgery. He is a Fellow of four Royal Colleges in surgery and plastic surgery, President of the UK Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and Senior Clinical Tutor at Hull York Medical School.
Deciding whether to have cosmetic surgery is a considered decision, and a good consultation should make it easier rather than harder. Mr Riaz sees every patient himself at the first appointment, performs all his own surgery, and sees his own patients at follow-up. Part of that first conversation is a frank discussion of what can realistically be achieved, and sometimes the honest answer is that surgery is not the right step, or not yet.
About Mr Riaz
Mr Riaz studied medicine at Nishtar Medical College in Multan, Pakistan, and completed his early surgical training there before coming to the UK and Ireland. He undertook his specialist plastic surgery training across England and Northern Ireland, obtaining FRCS in Plastic Surgery in 1998, and holds fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Glasgow and Edinburgh. He also spent time in Atlanta in the United States working with established aesthetic surgeons to develop his experience in cosmetic surgery.
He has held plastic and reconstructive surgery posts in the West Midlands, Northern Ireland and Yorkshire, and worked at consultant level in Belfast and in Pakistan before taking up a substantive consultant post with Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
He is a full member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and several other professional bodies, and has served as a Council Member of BAAPS. He is currently President of the UK Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
Alongside his practice he holds an honorary academic appointment at Hull York Medical School as Senior Clinical Tutor, covering teaching, research and curriculum development, and he has acted as a national aesthetic surgery trainer for BAPRAS and BAAPS aesthetic fellows. He has published in plastic and hand surgery journals.
Outside his NHS and private work, Mr Riaz is a surgical team member with a local charity. He travels twice a year to perform cleft lip and palate surgery in developing countries, for patients who would otherwise have no access to surgical correction.
