‘Putting Grimsby on the map!’

St Hugh’s consultant Mr Muhammad Riaz has expressed his delight and pride at being named a winner in this year’s prestigious Aesthetics Awards.

As reported, he was one of three finalists in the Best Surgical Result category – the only nominee in the north of England – for his pioneering signature ‘R’ face lift procedure.

The nomination recognised his work in perfecting the treatment, in particular patient Katherine Taylor’s transformative experience having undergone the procedure last year. She described it as the best decision she ever made – and thanks to the superb results she achieved with Mr Riaz, he was crowned winner at a ceremony in London.

The awards were presented by TV host and documentary maker Cherry Healey, who welcomed Mr Riaz onto the stage before a packed audience that included his wife and St Hugh’s Hospital’s delighted Cosmetics Sister, Sarah Grantham. He was presented with the trophy by consultant plastic surgeon Mr Dalvi Humzah, who won The Aesthetics Journal Award for Outstanding Achievement on the night.

“I was so privileged to be a finalist in this category, so to win is the best thing I could have hoped for,” said Mr Riaz.

“I am so proud of our surgery and our team. To get an Aesthetics Award means so much to us, and hopefully it helps put Grimsby on the map!”

Sarah added: “It was an amazing evening, and to be there in person to support Mr Riaz and share in the celebrations was fantastic.

“I am so thrilled that our work at St Hugh’s has been recognised with such a prestigious award. Our fellow nominees in the category are both surgeons in London, so the competition was tough – it proves that people do not need to travel to the capital or a city to have first-class cosmetics care.”

We spoke to Katherine in depth about her journey, from having what she described as ‘baggy’ eyes ever since childhood to being regularly complimented on her fresh-faced appearance.

He has worked as a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon since 2001. Although he offers a full range of cosmetic surgery, he has a special interest in facial rejuvenation, and created the ‘R’ facelift with the needs of his patients in mind. On a personal note, Mr Riaz is a surgical team member of a local charity and travels regularly to perform cleft lip and palate surgery on babies and young children in under-developed countries (read more about it here: hmtsthughs.org/life-changing-surgery-in-pakistan)
