Consultant ENT Surgeon

Mr Art Connolly is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby. He qualified in 1986, trained in Oxford, London, Glasgow, Bath and Auckland in New Zealand, and has been a consultant since 1998. His specialist interests are otology, covering hearing loss, tinnitus and dizziness, rhinology, facial plastic surgery, head and neck surgery, and the treatment of snoring under local anaesthetic.

Ear problems are peculiarly isolating. Hearing that has quietly declined, a persistent ringing nobody else can hear, or dizziness that makes ordinary movement feel unsafe. They are common, they are frequently dismissed, and a proper assessment usually produces both an explanation and something that can be done. Mr Connolly’s practice is built around that side of ENT, alongside nasal and sinus problems and a longstanding interest in treating snoring without a general anaesthetic.

About Mr Connolly

Mr Connolly qualified in medicine in 1986. He holds BM BCh and MA from the University of Oxford, an MSc from Magdalen College, Oxford, and Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons in both Otolaryngology and General Surgery.

He trained in Oxford, London, Glasgow and Bath, and completed a fellowship in rhinology and otology in Auckland, New Zealand. He was appointed as a consultant at Lincoln County Hospital NHS Trust in 1998.

His specialist interests span otology, covering hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness and balance disorders, rhinology including sinusitis, nasal obstruction and facial pain, facial plastic surgery including rhinoplasty and correction of prominent ears, and head and neck surgery covering salivary gland and thyroid conditions. He also undertakes medico-legal work.

He has a longstanding interest in treating snoring without a general anaesthetic, using laser surgery under local anaesthetic, and since 2013 has offered a snoring treatment involving an injection into the soft palate. He also performs a number of other ear and nasal procedures under local anaesthetic.

Outside medicine he swims every morning and plays competitive tennis. While at Oxford he gained a Blue for modern pentathlon and captained the cross country team, and he went on to represent Great Britain in pentathlon.
