Mr Mohit Gupta
FRCS, FRCOphth
Consultant Ophthalmologist
Mr Mohit Gupta is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby, specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery. He completed a glaucoma fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital, is Honorary Secretary of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and serves as an examiner for three Royal Colleges. He is Clinical Director for head and neck at his NHS trust and has published over forty papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Cataracts and glaucoma sit at opposite ends of the same worry. A cataract is a problem you can see happening, the world gradually dimming and blurring, and it is one of the most reliably fixable things in medicine. Glaucoma is the opposite: it takes sight quietly, often without symptoms until damage is done, which is why it is caught by testing rather than by noticing. Mr Gupta specialises in both, and the underlying principle is the same in each case, which is not leaving it too long.
About Mr Gupta
Mr Gupta completed his specialist registrar training in Sheffield before working at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, the largest and oldest eye hospital in the country, where he completed a fellowship in glaucoma. He was appointed as a consultant in 2005 and holds FRCS and FRCOphth.
He is nationally recognised in glaucoma. He serves as Honorary Secretary of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, a national role involving the delivery of ophthalmology services across the UK and the definition of standards of care, and he is an examiner for three Royal Colleges. He contributed to the NICE Glaucoma Commissioning Guidance and the Low Vision Framework, and he is a member of national and international ophthalmic societies.
In his NHS practice he is Clinical Director for head and neck and has served as Head of Service in ophthalmology. He has also sat as ophthalmic representative on a hospital medical advisory committee.
His clinical practice covers all aspects of adult ophthalmology, with specialist expertise in glaucoma and in high-volume cataract surgery. He also performs oculoplastic procedures and adult squint surgery.
He has published over forty papers in peer-reviewed journals and has given numerous poster and oral presentations at national and international conferences. His awards include the Allergan Glaucoma Achievement Award, along with local and national awards for outstanding leadership and outstanding team.
