Mr Sridhar Dharmavaram is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby. He is a laparoscopic gastrointestinal and colorectal surgeon with particular expertise in complex abdominal wall hernia repair, keyhole gallbladder surgery and colorectal conditions including inflammatory bowel disease. He holds Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and of the European Board of Surgery, and is a Royal College Tutor in the Department of Surgery at Lincoln.

Hernias and gallbladders are the two operations people most often delay. A hernia that has been manageable for years, or gallbladder attacks that have quietly changed what someone eats. Both are routine to fix and both are usually done by keyhole surgery. The exception is the hernia that is not routine: large, recurrent, or in a scar from previous surgery. Those need a surgeon who does complex abdominal wall work regularly, which is one of Mr Dharmavaram’s particular areas.

About Mr Dharmavaram

Mr Dharmavaram graduated in medicine from Government Medical College in Guntur, India, under NTR University of Health Sciences, and completed a postgraduate Masters in General Surgery at Government Medical College in Mysore.

In the UK he completed his higher surgical training in colorectal, laparoscopic and general surgery in the East Midlands. He holds MRCS and FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and Fellowship of the European Board of Surgery.

He completed a fellowship programme in laparoscopic and transanal minimally invasive surgery, including TaTME, at the advanced laparoscopic unit at Colchester General Hospital in Essex, before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at Lincoln County Hospital.

His practice covers general abdominal surgery, diagnostic laparoscopy, laparoscopic and open repair of complex abdominal wall hernias, and laparoscopic gallbladder removal. His special interests include keyhole surgery, colon and rectal cancer, transanal endoscopic surgery and inflammatory bowel disease.

He is one of the consultant surgeons delivering robotic-assisted colorectal surgery at United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where the service has treated over 500 patients since its introduction.

Alongside his clinical work he is a Royal College Tutor in the Department of Surgery at Lincoln. He teaches on surgical skills courses, trains junior surgeons and medical students, and has presented papers at national and international meetings and published in the colorectal surgery literature.
