Mr Chin Hooi Gan is a Consultant Gynaecologist at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby. He has been a consultant at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust since 2008, where he is Gynaecology Cancer MDT Lead, and he is lead gynaecologist for the Elland Hospital Endometriosis Centre, one of a limited number of centres accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy. His specialist interests are advanced laparoscopic surgery, complex endometriosis, advanced hysteroscopy and colposcopy.

Some gynaecological problems get labelled too difficult and then quietly parked. Endometriosis that has spread beyond the obvious places. A hysterectomy that has been declined because of weight. Pain that has been investigated repeatedly without an answer. Advanced keyhole surgery has moved the boundary on a good deal of that, and Mr Gan’s practice sits at the more complex end of what can now be done without open surgery.

About Mr Gan

Mr Gan holds an MD and is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He has been a Consultant Gynaecologist at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust since 2008, where he is Gynaecology Cancer Multidisciplinary Team Lead.

His specialist interests are advanced laparoscopic surgery, gynaecological oncology, colposcopy and advanced hysteroscopy.

He is lead gynaecologist for the Elland Hospital Endometriosis Centre, which is accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy. BSGE accreditation is the national standard for centres treating severe endometriosis, and it requires a full multidisciplinary team including a colorectal surgeon, a urologist, a specialist nurse and a pain specialist alongside the gynaecologist.

His particular expertise is laparoscopic surgery for advanced and complex endometriosis, including radical pelvic peritoneal resection and resection of rectovaginal septum endometriosis. This is deep endometriosis surgery, at the technically demanding end of the specialty.

He also specialises in performing laparoscopic hysterectomy for patients with a high BMI, an area where surgery is often declined or converted to open surgery elsewhere. In some cases these are now performed as a day case procedure.

He offers Natural Orifice Transvaginal Endoscopic Surgery, known as NOTES, a technique allowing hysterectomy and removal of the tubes and ovaries through the vagina with no abdominal incisions and therefore no abdominal scars. Relatively few surgeons in the UK offer it.
