Miss Preeti Gandhi is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby, specialising in laparoscopic, or keyhole, gynaecological surgery. She is Lead for Laparoscopy Services in Gynaecology at Scunthorpe General Hospital, and has a particular interest in endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic pain and heavy or irregular periods.

Heavy periods and pelvic pain are two of the things women are most often told to put up with. Endometriosis in particular takes years to diagnose for many people, partly because severe period pain gets normalised. Miss Gandhi’s practice is built around working out what is actually causing the symptoms and then treating it, using keyhole surgery wherever possible so that the treatment does not cost weeks of recovery.

Miss Gandhi qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in Gujarat, India in 1997, and completed her MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2000. She moved to the UK in 2004 and continued her training with the Yorkshire and Humber Deanery. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She is Lead for Laparoscopy Services in Gynaecology at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Her surgical practice is built around minimal access surgery. She performs laparoscopic total hysterectomy, laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, lateral pelvic wall dissection, ovarian cystectomy, oophorectomy, laparoscopic removal of fibroids, laparoscopy and dye test, and fimbrioplasty. Treating conditions laparoscopically generally means smaller incisions, less scarring and a shorter stay.

Alongside keyhole surgery she performs abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, vaginal prolapse repair, diagnostic hysteroscopy, and hysteroscopic treatments including polypectomy and endometrial ablation for heavy periods.

She has published in the medical literature, including on vaginal vault evisceration in The Obstetrician and Gynaecologistand on laparoscopic retrieval of a foreign body from the retroperitoneal space, and writes patient-facing articles on endometriosis, laparoscopic hysterectomy and ovarian cystectomy.
