Mr Mohammed Abdullah is a Consultant Gynaecologist at HMT St Hugh’s Hospital in Grimsby, specialising in minimal access surgery. He performs laparoscopic hysterectomy and removes ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and large pelvic masses through keyhole surgery. He is lead clinician for gynaecological cancer in his NHS practice and an Honorary Lecturer at Hull York Medical School.

Keyhole surgery has changed what a gynaecological operation looks like. Where a hysterectomy or a large fibroid used to mean open surgery, a long scar and weeks of recovery, much of it can now be done through a few small incisions, with most people home quickly and back to normal life far sooner. Mr Abdullah’s practice is built around doing as much as possible that way, including cases that are complex enough that many surgeons would still open.

About Mr Abdullah

Mr Abdullah is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with a specialist focus on minimal access surgery. He holds MB ChB, MSc and MRCOG qualifications and is on the GMC Specialist Register.

His surgical expertise lies in laparoscopic hysterectomy and in the keyhole removal of ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids and large pelvic masses. The size of what can be dealt with laparoscopically is where experience tells. A large fibroid or a sizeable pelvic mass is technically demanding to remove through small incisions, and being able to avoid open surgery in those cases makes a substantial difference to recovery.

He is lead clinician for gynaecological cancer in his NHS practice, which means he assesses and investigates women with suspected gynaecological cancer and sits at the centre of the diagnostic pathway. His other specialist interests include colposcopy.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Abdullah is committed to medical education. He is an Honorary Lecturer for students at Hull York Medical School and mentors junior colleagues.
