Mr Desai completed the world renowned upper limb fellowship from Wrightington Hospital, which is a centre of excellence. He has excellent exposure and training in managing both soft tissue and arthroplasty complex procedures including revision arthroplasty in shoulder and elbow, which he is incorporating in his current consultant practice. His area of special interest is sports injuries of the shoulder and elbow and treating conditions such as rotator cuff tears, instability and impingement. He also deals with joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow for arthritis and trauma.
Mr Desai completed higher surgical training in the prestigious Northern Deanery Training Programme in Newcastle, which is when he developed a special interest in shoulder and elbow. He obtained both a Master of Science and Surgery (MCh Orth) in Trauma and Orthopaedics from Edge Hill University and was first among 150 candidates to obtain the degree. Mr Desai is keen on introducing new pathways in shoulder and elbow services like awake surgery, day case surgery, enhanced recovery and office-based ultrasound scans for patients in his clinics. He is also keen on audit and research. He has more than 30 publications and more than 50 presentations both nationally and internationally. He is also faculty in several trauma and orthopaedic courses and is interested in teaching and training junior staff.
