About Mr Nanavati

Mr Nanavati studied medicine at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and completed his orthopaedic training on the Sheffield and South Yorkshire rotation. He holds MBBS, MRCS and FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedics, and is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

During his training he worked alongside two past presidents of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, including a sixteen-month fellowship with Miss Patricia Allen in Leicester covering the full range of foot and ankle conditions, with a particular focus on keyhole surgery, complex deformity reconstruction and diabetic foot problems. He was also awarded a British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society trauma fellowship in Malawi, working on complex trauma with very limited equipment.

Alongside his clinical training he completed a postgraduate Master’s in Orthopaedic Engineering at Cardiff University over three years, covering implant technology, biomechanics and the surgical application of engineering principles. He passed with Merit. That background shapes his day-to-day practice in a practical way, particularly when it comes to selecting the right implant for an individual patient, and it fed an interest in limb-salvage 3D printing technology developed during his time in Sheffield.

He has published in multiple journals including the British Medical Journal, has won awards for innovation in orthopaedic surgery, and holds an NHS Clinical Excellence Award for services to foot and ankle surgery. He has served as Deputy Divisional Director for Surgery at his NHS trust and is an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor.

He was selected as part of an international team of foot and ankle surgeons to write a chapter in Essentials of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a recognised reference text in the field.
